Life after Happy Landings

It is always nice to receive photos and stories about how our animals are getting on after being re-homed. Some of our success stories are featured on this page...

Berlingo

Originally found as a straying puppy Berlingo had been dumped when the novelty of owning a boisterous puppy wore off.

A fabulous dog with a lovely temperament, she was lucky enough to be adopted by a lovely family.

As you can see she has settled in a treat and loves her new life as a valued family member.

Gandhi

Gandhi came to us depressed and agoraphobic having been kept locked in a shed in isolation for quite some time. We could not even persuade him to come out of his sleeping box initially, he just stayed inside with his head in the corner.

Underweight, dirty, refusing food, we were very worried for this boy. He did make some progress with us and we were able to move him to a small pen on our lawn, but he was still desperately lonely and depressed.

Fortunately for him, help was at hand and a wonderful home came forward for him after his tragic story was put on our website. It didn`t take Gandhi long to remember what life was all about once he was settled into his new pad with two young girly geese, a paddock and a stream!

What a lucky boy!

Chester

A beautiful softy, Chester came into us as an emergency when one of his owners decided that he was dirty and should be shot. Fortunately for Chester no one else felt that way and we were only too glad to be able to step in and help.

Chester is now thriving and leading an idyllic spaniel life.

Thistle

One of many unwanted litters this year, Thistle has been very lucky in finding her home. Here she is being cared for by her new big brother - Thistle is the one looking at the camera whilst her new best friend doses.

If we didn`t know better we would say they were related - spot the family resemblance?!

Bumble and Stumble

This pair of tiny kittens were brought to us in desperate need. Their overwhelmed mum had abandoned the litter and these two were the only survivors.

Tiny for their age and very weak, they easily fitted into the palm of your hand. They were immediately found a human foster mum who had the task of feeding them every couple of hours owing to their frailty, often needing to be coaxed to eat.

With determination, many a long night and some heartache they were both finally raised successfully. They remaimed small and Bumble being so weak and poorly remained half the size of her sister for many weeks.

This pair who would probably have died are now happily rehomed together, thriving and finally a normal size.

Jack

Jack came into us as an absolutely terrified, submissive youngster. He would curl himself into the tiniest upside-down ball he possibly could when he had to meet people.

Ideally he would avoid contact with new humans and run away instead. Jack had clearly been through a very difficult time and really needed a special home to build up his confidence. He was very lucky in his new owners who were just right for him and gradually brought him out of his shell.

That is some years ago now but we have recently had as update from them. "Jack is now about ten years old and is a brilliant dog, so obedient and although he now has a touch of arthritis from time to time he enjoys lovely long walks off the lead where-ever we go. He rarely leaves my side at home or out walking. Keep up the good work I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love of this beautiful dog."

Tyler

Tyler is getting on really well! He is full of fun and loves nothing more than going for walks across the fields, in any kind of weather, rain, windy or freezing he's up and ready to go. His favourite past time has to be de-stuffing teddies.

He is not satisfied until they are left with no inner's, eyes or noses. Once complete it is ceremoniously taken outside and dumped by the bin. Bones are also a happy pursuit and on Saturdays needs no encouragement to visit his favourite pet shop in Dorchester where he picks his own bone from the box and regardless of the queue will jump up and place his prize on the counter, tail wagging, once in the bag, he's happy to go.

He is surprisingly good at telling you ( in his own way) what he wants. Paws on treat drawer, or taking you to your coat. His owners are very proud.

Tabitha & Patches
This beautiful pair of cats are very different in character - Tabitha tended to be a little aloof, Patches was anybodys for a cuddle. They felt a little lost when they with us, but have clearly settled brilliantly into their new home and decided that being lap cats is definitely the answer...when not up a tree that is!

Nile
Nile was an unwanted boy found living in a shed and trying to fend for himself. All that is behind him now and he has clearly rediscovered the hidden kitten in himself! He is not always a wild child and does have his quiet moments too, as you can see from this photo taken with his new friend.

Fidget

Fidget was another of the 4 kittens found dumped under a hedge on a cold wet day aged about 6 weeks. As we were full at the centre they went straight into a foster home where they worked on re decorating the spare room!

From the start Fidget really could not stay still, hence his name at the time. Now renamed, Bandit is clearly blossoming under the calming influence of his new feline friend Topaz. We think they look wonderful together - well done you!
