| Santa will soon be typing the Happyland postcode into his santanav and making his merry way to our shelter (probably via Pylle Village Hall as other satnav users have) and bringing all our animals a prezzie or two. Other more earthly supporters are also asking if we have a christmas wish list and yes we most certainly do! We have a regular supply of general cat and dog biscuits, tins, small treats etc, as we are very lucky to have several animal food donation boxes in various locations and even more fortunate to have them filled on a weekly basis - we cannot thank you enough for your generosity throughout the year. So our wish list would be..... Rabbit food, tins of chappie, toys for both dogs and cats, nyla bones and treats for teeth, poo bags! Yard brushes, dustpan and brush, bin bags, washing up liquid, washing powder We have two or three lovely supporters who keep the staff in tea bags every month but if anyone gets any spare coffee!!.... | ||
| Christmas Pet Safety | ||
| Christmas is a wonderful time of year but not always for your pets! Here are some tips for keeping your pets safe during the festive period. Food to avoid giving your pet at Christmas Alcoholic beverages Chocolate (highly toxic to pets) Coffee Mouldy or spoiled foods Salt Chicken or Turkey bones (they can splinter) Avoid giving your pet any of your leftovers as this can cause diarrhoea. Also keep your pet away from cooked bones: they can splinter or get lodged in your pets throat or can cause serious damage by puncturing the intestinal tract. Pet hazards around the Christmas tree Fallen Christmas tree needles are very sharp and can easily get stuck in your pets paws or throat. Sweep tree needles up regularly or fence off your Christmas tree to separate your pet and tree. Do not hang your chocolates from your Christmas tree: they are highly toxic and your pet will be tempted if he can see and smell them. Cover up electric cords and flashing tree lights so your pet cant chew them and electrocute himself. Try using fairy lights that dont flash as some pets when up close can get very scared by these. Christmas tree decorations can cause a nasty accident or be fatal to your pet. Cats, and young pets especially, will show a great interest in decorations hanging from your tree. Try to use unbreakable decorations and nothing too small. Avoid tinsel or ribbons as these are dangerous to the gastrointestinal tract if your pet swallows them. Make sure your tree is well anchored so your pet cant pull it over. Other winter time dangers to pets Holly, mistletoe, lilies and yew trees are poisonous to pets and must be kept well out of reach. Remember loud noises will panic your pet, such as Christmas crackers, poppers, balloons, and champagne bottles. Remove your Christmas wrapping paper (and toys) from the floor to avoid your pet chewing or swallowing it. For your pets safety this Christmas always buy your pets presents from a reputable pet shop or veterinary clinic. Pets licking up salt from the road or anti-freeze, both of which can be dangerous Freezing conditions which can leave pets with frostbite or hypothermia Pets falling into icy ponds Cats climbing into engines to escape from the cold and suffering burns Make sure that you clean your dogs paws after walking on salted paths | ||

| We would like to say a Big Thankyou to everyone that made our Dog Show and Fun Day so succesful. We were unfortunate that it was so windy and did have a down pour in the middle but we still managed to raise £2000, so thank you to everyone that helped make that possible. | ||
